Prism Scan

Terms of Service

Last updated: July 16, 2026

Acceptance and eligibility

These terms apply when you use the Prism Scan website, Chrome extension, iOS mobile app, Android mobile app, backend-powered features, contact form, product submission tools, subscription features, analytics-consent controls, and issue reporting tools.

Prism Scan is operated by Adriano Barbet, a sole trader in Ireland trading as Prism Scan. By using Prism, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use Prism.

Prism is not directed to children under 16. If you are under 16, use Prism only with appropriate permission from a parent or guardian.

To subscribe to Supporter you must be able to enter into a binding contract and provide valid payment details.

What Prism does

Prism is an informational tool that helps shoppers inspect food, cosmetic, supplement, and household products. It may scan barcodes, detect product-page evidence, look up public product datasets, show score signals, hydrate ingredient or additive information, accept missing-product submissions, and provide AI-assisted product analysis.

Prism does not provide medical, nutritional, legal, regulatory, safety, allergy, or other professional advice. It does not diagnose conditions, treat conditions, certify product safety, or replace advice from qualified professionals.

You are responsible for deciding whether a product is right for you and for checking important information with the manufacturer, seller, packaging, label, or other authoritative source before buying or using a product.

Prism website

The website provides public information, legal pages, contact forms, account and upgrade flows, billing-status views, uninstall feedback, and product or entitlement links.

You must not submit false, abusive, unlawful, or misleading contact messages, account details, feedback, or reports. You are responsible for keeping any account credentials secure.

Chrome extension

The Chrome extension is built around manual product checks in the browser. It may read visible product-page content, store local preferences and caches, coordinate background lookups, and call Prism backend services to provide user-facing product analysis.

You must use the extension only for lawful, personal, and reasonable product research and support purposes. You must not misuse browser permissions, attempt to extract backend secrets, scrape Prism services, or use Prism in a way that violates Chrome Web Store rules or third-party website terms.

iOS and Android mobile apps

The iOS and Android apps are built around manual barcode scans, manual search, local preference profiles, history and saved products, missing-product submissions, and optional Supporter subscriptions.

Camera access is provided for barcode scanning. Product photo upload is provided for missing-product submissions. You must only upload product photos and metadata that you have the right to submit and that do not include unnecessary personal information about you or other people.

You remain responsible for checking product labels, packaging, manufacturer information, store listings, and professional advice where relevant. A successful barcode scan, search result, score, or AI analysis does not guarantee that a product is safe, suitable, available, authentic, or correctly labelled.

Mobile privacy, analytics, and diagnostics

The mobile apps use an anonymous Prism device identifier to provide backend features, enforce usage limits, associate submissions, resolve Supporter access, and connect App Store or Google Play purchases through RevenueCat. It is not an advertising identifier. Apple, Google, and RevenueCat process store billing and subscription data under their own terms, and deleting Prism data does not cancel a store subscription.

When you request personalized scoring or AI analysis, Prism may send relevant product evidence, your active profile name, selected preference context, and custom notes to the Prism backend and AI provider. If you submit catalogue content, Prism processes the product, brand, or parent-company information and only the photographs you select for upload. The Privacy Policy explains these data flows, the providers involved, and applicable retention periods.

PostHog mobile product analytics is used only in builds where it is enabled and only after you opt in. You can decline analytics or withdraw consent later in settings, which stops future PostHog events. Essential Sentry crash, error, release-health, and performance diagnostics remain active independently of PostHog consent so Prism can secure and maintain the apps; Prism configures these diagnostics to exclude application data and identity where possible.

The in-app account-deletion control asks the backend to delete data associated with the anonymous mobile identity before clearing the old local identity. Pending submissions and private submission photos are deleted. Catalogue contributions and approved product photos may be retained where needed for the shared catalogue, with the submitting identity and contact fields removed. The Privacy Policy describes retention, deletion rights, and how to withdraw consent.

Acceptable use

Prism is built around manual product checks. You should use it only for lawful, personal, and reasonable product research and support purposes.

You must not misuse Prism, interfere with its security or operation, attempt to extract secrets or backend keys, overload the service, scrape the backend, submit malicious content, or use Prism to harm others.

You are responsible for the information you submit through preferences, reports, contact forms, product submissions, photographs, and custom notes. Do not submit unlawful content or personal data about other people unless you have a lawful basis to do so.

Third-party data and services

Prism relies on product-page evidence, ecommerce website structure, app-store and browser platform services, Open Food Facts, Open Beauty Facts, infrastructure providers, analytics providers, subscription providers, payment providers, and AI providers. These services are not controlled by Prism Scan.

Open Food Facts and Open Beauty Facts data is community-based and may be licensed under open-data terms. Where Prism displays their data, Prism should attribute it as required by those projects and their applicable licenses.

Third-party data, APIs, product pages, images, ingredients, scores, photos, labels, subscriptions, analytics events, search results, and AI outputs may be incomplete, delayed, incorrect, unavailable, or changed without notice.

AI features

AI-assisted product analysis can be useful for summarising product evidence, but it can also be wrong, incomplete, or overconfident. AI output should be treated as informational only.

When you request personalized AI analysis, Prism may send relevant product evidence, the active local profile name, and the preference context you selected to the Prism backend and AI provider. This context may include health-related or other sensitive preferences. Do not put unnecessary personal or sensitive information in profile names, preferences, or custom notes, and do not submit personal data about another person without authority.

Do not rely on Prism AI output for medical, allergy, safety, legal, or purchasing decisions without checking the underlying product label and appropriate expert or manufacturer information.

AI providers process prompts and generate outputs under their applicable terms and policies. The Prism Privacy Policy explains the data sent for AI analysis and the providers currently used.

Prism Scan may change, limit, pause, or remove AI features at any time, including for cost, safety, reliability, provider, or legal reasons.

Supporter subscriptions and billing

Prism is free to use without an account by default. Supporter is an optional paid subscription. The free tier includes a limited number of personalized AI scores per day and fewer saved preference slots, while Supporter includes unlimited personalized AI scores and a higher preference limit. Current pricing, platform, billing interval, and included features are shown before you pay.

Website and Chrome extension Supporter subscriptions use Firebase Authentication for sign-in and Stripe for billing. iOS and Android in-app Supporter subscriptions use Apple App Store or Google Play billing through RevenueCat. The store, Stripe, and RevenueCat may apply their own terms, tax handling, renewal rules, cancellation tools, refund rules, and account requirements.

Supporter subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period until you cancel. For Stripe subscriptions, you can cancel through the Stripe billing portal. For iOS or Android in-app subscriptions, you must cancel through your Apple App Store or Google Play subscription settings. Your Supporter access continues until the end of the period you have already paid for, and partial periods are not refunded by Prism unless required by law or the relevant platform rules.

Deleting Prism data or uninstalling the app does not cancel an active subscription. You must cancel through the Stripe billing portal, Apple App Store, or Google Play, as applicable.

If you ask for Supporter access to begin immediately, performance starts during any applicable withdrawal period. Any effect on a statutory right of withdrawal depends on applicable law and the express consent or acknowledgement collected during checkout. Nothing in these terms removes consumer rights that cannot legally be waived.

Prism Scan may change Supporter pricing with reasonable advance notice where required, and may suspend or end Supporter access if a payment fails, is reversed, is refunded, expires, or cannot be verified.

Product and catalogue submissions

If you submit a missing product, product correction, brand or parent-company suggestion, source URL, note, or product photograph, you grant Prism Scan a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to use, host, copy, review, process, adapt, combine, and display the submitted material for operating, improving, and maintaining Prism and the Prism product database.

Catalogue submissions should contain relevant product or brand information only. Do not upload photos or text that show or reveal people, private locations, account information, receipts, payment cards, medical records, or other unnecessary personal data.

Prism may approve, reject, edit, merge, or delete catalogue submissions at its discretion. Submitting material does not guarantee that it will be added, scored, displayed, attributed, or kept available. If a contribution has already been accepted into the shared catalogue, it and any accepted product photographs may remain after mobile account deletion, but Prism removes the submitting device identifier and other submitter contact fields as described in the Privacy Policy.

Intellectual property and feedback

Prism Scan owns or licenses the website, extension, mobile apps, backend code, design, branding, text, and service materials, except for third-party data, open-source software, submitted product materials, and third-party content used under their own terms.

You may not copy, reverse engineer, resell, or redistribute Prism except where allowed by law or by an applicable open-source license.

If you send feedback, reports, suggestions, or contact messages, Prism Scan may use them to operate, debug, improve, and communicate about Prism without owing compensation, while respecting applicable privacy law.

Availability and changes

Prism may change, pause, limit, or discontinue website, extension, mobile app, backend, AI, lookup, analytics, product submission, reporting, or Supporter features at any time. If Prism discontinues Supporter, it will handle any active paid period in a reasonable way.

Prism may update these terms when the product, providers, law, or business requirements change. The date at the top shows when the terms were last updated.

Warranty and liability

Prism is provided on an as-is and as-available basis to the fullest extent permitted by law. Prism Scan does not promise that Prism will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or accurate.

To the fullest extent permitted by Irish and EU law, Prism Scan will not be liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, special, punitive, or loss-of-profit damages arising from your use of Prism or reliance on product information.

Nothing in these terms limits rights that cannot be excluded under applicable consumer law, or liability that cannot legally be limited.

Governing law and contact

These terms are governed by the laws of Ireland, without prejudice to any mandatory consumer protection rights that apply in your country of residence.

Questions about these terms can be sent through the contact form on the Prism website.
